Sonja V. Stewart, age 78, of Forward Twp., passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Jefferson Hospital. She was the secretary for Barbara Hafer when she served as the state treasurer and auditor general. She was a member of Round Hill Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth Twp., and enjoyed cruising, traveling, casinos, and going to her family's camp.

Born August 31, 1938 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late John and Signe (Carlson) Carlson and wife of the late James W. Stewart. She is survived by daughter, Cynthia (Raymond) Driscoll of Elizabeth Twp.; son, Jimmy (Nadine) Stewart of Monongahela; daughter, Karen (Al) Ragan of Elizabeth Twp.; 10 grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Josh, Sean, Arron, Dena, Nick, Mike, Jeff, and the late baby Jimmy; 3 great-grandchildren, Bryce, Ryann and Raegan; sister, Elin Mark of Harrisburg; and brother, Roine Carlson of Fort Myers, FL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, John Carlson. Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, 4504 Walnut Street, Versailles, on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from noon to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lowell Meek officiating.
