James G. Nevin III, age 85, of Forward Twp., passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at home. He retired as the owner/operator of Nevin Trucking in Forward Twp. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth and a former member of Bethesda United Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, where he and Lois were married Nov. 1, 1957. He was a 50-year member of Stephen Bayard Masonic Lodge 526 of Elizabeth, a senior member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry for 50 years, and a member of the Syria Shriners. He was owner of Erickson & Nevin Motorsports and loved competing at Motordrome, Jennerstown and Clearfield speedways. He enjoyed tending to herds of cattle in Forward Twp., as well as the associated responsibilities of farming. Born August 18, 1937 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late James Gordon Nevin Jr. and the late Marian (Ferver) Nevin. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois S. (Sorg) Nevin; sons, Ralph (Linda) Nevin of Forward Twp. and Billy (Janine) Nevin of Elizabeth Twp.; grandchildren, Natalie (Brian Thurmon) Conte, Aimee (Alex) Matscherz, Amelia (Nate Rozek) Nevin and Justin (Ashley) Nevin; great-grandchildren, Haylee Marcione, Brian Thurmon, Zoe, Kai and Ila Matscherz, and Aubree Nevin; sister-in-law, Wilma Nevin of Ligonier; also, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Deborah Ann Bozek, and brother, Robert Nevin. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Benjamin Schneider officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.
