Valerie Kanyak Gallagher, 67, of Dravosburg, PA, passed away Thursday, August 24th, 2023. She was born in McKeesport on January 1st, 1956, to the late Peter and Isabel Shoaf Kanyak. Valerie was loved by many. She is survived by the loves of her life, her two daughters, April Cislo Banks, of West Mifflin, and Amber (Josh) Saunders, of Irwin, and her step-son, Ryan Gallagher, of West Mifflin. She was affectionately referred to as “Nana” by her three grandchildren, Baylee Banks, Joshua Saunders, and Adalynn Saunders. She is also survived by her husband, Richard Gallagher, of West Mifflin, and her very best friend, Mary Eversole, of White Oak, as well as many nieces and nephews. Valerie was greeted in Heaven by her parents, Peter and Isabel (Shoaf) Kanyak, her brother, Stephen Kanyak, and her two sisters, who doubled as her best friends, Janice Kanyak and Lori Falchetti. Valerie had so many friends and family who loved her. Val loved to be a grandmother, a mother, and a friend to all. Valerie was exceptional at her job of being a caretaker, and she also left behind many clients whom she loved as her own. She was a member of the American Legion #380 in Dravosburg as well as the Dravosburg United Methodist Church and the Dravosburg Volunteer Fire Company, and also worked as a waitress at Denny’s in West Mifflin. She leaves behind the memory of her laugh and beautiful smile. Family and friends will be received on Monday, August 28th, 2023 from 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. at I.M FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 203 4th St, Dravosburg, PA 15034. A service will take place at 6 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the funeral home to defray costs.
