Samuel R. Byers Sr., age 78, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at UPMC McKeesport. He retired as a heater at U.S. Steel, Clairton Works. An Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of New Hope Assembly of God Church in Elizabeth Twp., the American Hunting Club in Potter County, and the Elizabeth Twp. Sportsmen's Association. Born August 31, 1945 in Jacksonville, FL, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Elizabeth J. "Bam" (Wall) Byers. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary E. (Csokuly) Byers; daughter, Mary Ann (Christopher Mozgawa) Luketic of West Newton; son, Samuel R. (Ami Beth Frelick-Ellis) Byers Jr. of Buena Vista; grandchildren, Daniel (Jessica) Luketic, Derek (Chelcey) Luketic, David Luketic and Dillon Luketic; great-grandson, Ashton Luketic; step-great-grandchildren, James, Timber, Lalen, Riley and Kalie; sisters, Nancy Blake of Tavares, FL, Lois Jane Kwiecinski of Baldwin and Dolores (Joe) Martin of Florida; brothers, Kenneth (Nancy) Byers of Baltimore, MD and Leonard Byers of Forward Twp.; also, nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Saturday from 1 PM until the time of service at 3 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Damian Schoonmaker officiating.
