Richard A. Gorentz, 89, of Irwin, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at St. Anne Home, Greensburg. He was born April 1, 1934 in Herminie, a son of the late Alvin and Mary (Cerne) Gorentz. Prior to his retirement, Richard was a machinist then promoted to inspector and worked in that trade for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Herminie, a veteran of the US Army 82nd Airborne Division having served during the Korean War and a member of the American Legion. In his free time when he wasn't fixing something, he liked to dance, fish, travel and spend time with his friend, Barbara Dunlap. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Ann Gorentz. He is survived by his daughters, Jacquelyn Sayers (Calvin), Leslie DeRosa (Jerry), Amy Sartori (Randall); brother, George Gorentz; sister, Flora Gorentz; grandchildren Clair, Nathan, Marisa, Calvin C., Sean and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Kailyn, Ethan, Taylor, Anthony and Hank. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA 15642. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 12 p.m. at St. Edward Church, Herminie. Interment to follow in Westmoreland Co. Memorial Park, Greensburg.
