Joanne T. Smail, age 89 of North Huntingdon passed away peacefully December 28, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born July 21, 1934 in Turtle Creek, a daughter of the late Vincent and Valera Krygowski Scheffler. Joanne was a member of St. Agnes Church and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed working with flowers, gardening, playing cards, crocheting afghans but most especially spending time with her family. She was a member of AARP 3221. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Westinghouse Airbrake as a secretary and Hazuzas Greenhouse. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William in 1996 and one sister, Pauline Lenart. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Hempel (Tom) and Elaine Dietrich, 2 grandchildren Brian Hemple (Nicholas Gray), Jason Hempel (Amanda), 2 great grandchildren, Ryleigh and Harlow Hempel, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon on Friday from 2-8 P.M. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 9:30 A.M. at St. Agnes Church followed by interment at Good Shepherd Cemetery .
