William "Bill" Charmo

William Snyder Funeral Home

Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | April 29, 2024

William "Bill" Charmo, age 87, of North Huntingdon. It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn his passing on April 26, 2024. Bill passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 22, 1936, at home in Duquesne, he was the cherished son of Michael and Helen Charmo. A multisport athlete, Bill graduated from Duquesne High School, where he left an impression on the field and in the memories of his classmates.

Bill married his beloved wife, Nancy Martin Charmo, on January 4, 1958, at Holy Name Church in Duquesne. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring memories.

For many years, Bill was a dedicated employee at US Steel's Duquesne Works, where he worked in the metallurgical department before becoming a turn foreman. After the mill's closure in 1982, Bill didn't settle into retirement quietly. Instead, he started a small business, offering handyman services to the local community. Later, he joined First Student as a van driver, safely transporting students for the Penn Trafford School District until his final retirement.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Known among his friends and family for his "putzying" around the house, Bill could often be found on a roof, in a ditch, building a wall, or painting something.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Nancy; his children, William (Bill) Charmo, Blaine Charmo, and Lesley Boatright (Charmo); six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, with another on the way in May.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 1st at 9:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Private interment will follow at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.

Bill was a remarkable man who will be missed deeply by all who knew him, especially his family, who cherished every moment shared with him.
