We are saddened to announce the passing of Joan Elenor Bicsey of McKeesport, PA, age 95, who died at Asbury Heights on May 12, 2024, of natural causes.

She was born on March 19, 1929, in McKeesport, PA, and is the daughter of the late Andrew E. and Mary E. Zipay Bicsey.

Joan was employed by US Steel, where she was a secretary, and would retire from after 39 years.  

Joan traveled extensively, even to Rome, with the St. Stephen’s Church Choir. This was the highlight of her travels.

She was a member of the 6^th Ward Task Force, getting involved with the ever-changing McKeesport.

In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her brother, John “Jack” Bicsey; and niece, Luann Bicsey Fowler.

Joan is survived by nieces, Barbie (Ken) Bicsey of Sunbury, OH; Maury (Scott) Post of North Port, FL; and nephew, Jon Bicsey of Pittsburgh, PA; and cousins.

A special thanks to Nancy Dunlay, who helped her extensively on Park Street, and to the Varhula family for taking her to the grocery store and to their home for family gatherings.

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Striffler’s of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Mary, Mother of God Parish, Saint Angela Merici Church, 2701 Kelly Street, White Oak, PA 15131, at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow.

If family or friends desire, remembrances may be made to the McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center, (1832 Arboretum Dr, McKeesport, PA 15132) in Joan’s name.
