Edward J. Scheetz, age 96, of McKeesport, died on Saturday, September 7, 2024. He was born in Homestead on August 22, 1928, and is the son of the late Joseph E. and Anna Shack Scheetz. He was the husband of the late Alice M. Pasternak Scheetz, who died on October 27, 2021. In addition to his parents and wife, Edward is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Scheetz; and sister, Dorothy Lesko.
He graduated from Munhall High School in 1946, then served in the US Army for a year and a half and obtained the rank of staff sergeant. He then graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1952 with his degree in education and earned his engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1956. In 1959, he was employed at the Bettis Atomic Nuclear Power Plant in West Mifflin until he transferred in 1969 to the commercial division of Westinghouse, in Monroeville, where he retired in 1991. He also was an avid golfer and longtime Steelers fan who was present at Three Rivers Stadium at the time of the Immaculate Reception.
He is survived by his daughters, Elaine Smyda of Acworth, Georgia; and Deborah (Frank) Witzel of Germany; grandchildren, Mark and Daniel Smyda; and Alexandra and Roman Witzel; many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici Church, 2701 Kelly Street, White Oak, PA 15131. Burial will follow.
