Frank R. McClain
Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | December 28, 2024
Frank R. McClain, Age 83 of East McKeesport, was peacefully reunited with his beloved wife Anna Marie on Christmas Eve.
Frank was a jack of all trades. As a child, he enjoyed spending time with his dad in the garden. That love of gardening carried over into his whole life, so much that we were talking gardening tips right before his last surgery. Frank was proud to grow corn, kohlrabi, cabbage for homemade sauerkraut and tomatoes to name a few. He followed in his father’s footsteps with joining the Sunset Volunteer Fire Department as a child, remaining a Firefighter until he joined the U.S. Army. Private First Class McClain was part of the C Company, 724th Maintenance Battalion stationed in Berlin, Germany. He was an Expert Rifleman (Rifle M-14) and awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin). A
fter his deployment, he did one tour in the Reserves before being Honorably Discharged in March of 1967. While in the Reserves, he married Anna Marie and started working at Lea’s Floral Shop alongside her, later becoming part owner. Through the years, many of the customers from Lea’s became cherished friends who were just like family. Together, Frank and Anna Marie created a life to be proud of with their 3 children.
Frank was an avid bowler, often traveling for tournaments. He was most proud of his 812 series in 1987. Frank and Anna Marie liked to travel when they could – Ireland, Australia, the beach and casino bus trips with friends. If he wasn’t in his basket room or bowling, you could find him in a garage somewhere woodworking. Frank was not one to sit idle, constantly making something with his two hands or four depending on who got roped into helping him at that time. Some of those projects led him “up the mountains” as he would say. The house tucked in the woods on top of that mountain holds some of his most cherished memories with family spanning generations. Between Spaghetti Tuesdays and Pizza Fridays, family dinners were important to him. Frank had a deep love for his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
He was the son of Frank and Dorothy (Platt) McClain. Beloved Husband to the late Anna Marie (Lucarelli) McClain. Loving Father of Mary Pat Lechliter-King (Dennis), Frank J. McClain (Vicky) and Diane Waszkiewicz (Todd). Cherished Grandfather of John, Mark (Julie), Brian (Ali) and Maryann (Dylan Pisarcik) Lechliter, Jessica, Frank Jr (Brittany Platt) and Lynnie McClain, Matthew, Elizabeth, Rebecca and the Late Kirk Waszkiewicz. Adored Great Grandfather to Bailey, Patrick and Anna Lechliter, and Charlie and Amelia Lechliter. Frank is also survived by his siblings, Brian McClain, Robert McClain (Maureen), Diane Kapp-Schmidt (Jack), numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
