Ethel S. Balas, age 92, of North Huntingdon, PA, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025. She was born in McKeesport, PA on November 7, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Harry Forgie and Elizabeth Mitchell Spittal. Ethel was a 1950 graduate of McKeesport Area High School and received two master’s degrees in arts and teaching, as well as in education, from the University of Pittsburgh. She also obtained an administrator’s certificate from Duquesne University. She was employed as English teacher at McKeesport Area School District and later retired as the school administrator. She was a member of Mon Yough Community Services, Meals on Wheels, and the Salvation Army Auxiliary. She was also a Vestry Member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in McKeesport, PA.

Ethel is survived by her children, Barbara (Gregory) Grossmann of Greensburg, PA; Robert (Karen) Balas of Chesapeake, VA; Ellen (David) Margliotti of North Huntingdon, PA; Douglas (Linda) Balas of McKeesport, PA; grandchildren, Ian Grossmann; Lauren Bartos; Jason Balas; Samuel (Devon) Balas; Matthew Balas; Sharese (Austin) Douglas; Garrett (Marc Rehmar) Margliotti; Kari (Meredith) Margliotti; and great-grandchildren, Nirvana; Khaleesi; Asher; Luke; Tegan; Wren; Jack; and Sadie.

Family and friends are invited to gather and honor Ethel’s memory on Monday, September 8, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 220 Eighth Avenue, McKeesport, PA 15132, with The Rev. Dr. Moni McIntyre officiating.
