John Nicora Jr., of White Oak, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at his residence. He was born Aug. 1, 1924, in McKeesport, a son of the late John and Mary Bosga Nicora.
He retired from Fisher Body Plant in West Mifflin, where he was a tool and die maker. He served in the Army during World War II, was a Purple Heart recipient and he also received the French Legion of Honor Medal in July of 2016. He was a member of the White Oak American Legion, Post 701, the Christy Park Senior Citizens and was a former member of the White Oak Seniors. He was active at St. Mary Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church, which his parents were original founders. He was past president of council and served as an usher. He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Bernardo Nicora; sons, John A. (Sherry) Nicora, of Canton, Ohio, Robert J. (LaRene) Nicora, of McKeesport, and Daniel J. (Mary Sue) Nicora, of Kettering, Ohio; grandchildren, Carly (Bradley) Seliga, John T. (Shannon) Nicora, Theresa (Kris) Chadwell; step-grandchildren, Matthew (Shana) See and James See; great-grandchildren, Evalinna, Zackery, John Holden and Everett; and step-great-grandchildren, Gabby, Annie, Molly, Seamus, Bella and Tori. Friends will be received from noon to 2 and 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at STRIFFLER'S OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412-678-6177. Services will be at noon Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at St. Mary Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Iuliu Muntean officiating. Burial will follow.
