Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | February 13, 2017

Elaine (West) Shirey, 78, of North Huntingdon, peacefully went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 11. She spent the last weeks of her life in her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born in her home on December 13, 1938 in Dayton, Pa, a loving daughter of the late Harold and Alverda (Schrecengost) West. A devoted follower of Christ, Elaine shared her God-given gifts of love and music in every area of her life. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Harrison City where she sang in the choir, one of the many choirs in which she sang throughout her life.

Her soprano vocals were the highlight of many ensembles and solos, including a solo of “Sunrise, Sunset” at her daughter’s wedding.
Elaine’s family and friends will remember her contagious laughter, her firm compassion, and her steadfast devotion to Carl, her husband of 60 years. A loving mother and grandmother, Elaine found boundless joy in the eyes of her children and grandchildren. She served and cared for her husband and family with a true servant’s heart, and she always loved to have a house full of family, friends, and joy.
She is survived by her loving husband Carl M. Shirey; her children Kevin M. and wife Debbie Shirey of North Huntingdon, Lisa and husband Glenn Good of Punxsutawney, and Diane and husband Bill Lichauer of Pittsburgh; her grandchildren Kevin and Justin Shirey, Heather and Jacob Good, and Will and Hannah Lichauer; her great granddaughter Lilly Shirey; and a brother Kenneth and wife Vivian West of Dayton.
