Irene J. McCarthy, 77, of North Huntingdon, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at UPMC East Hospital, Monroeville.

She was born October 7, 1939 in Bethel Park, PA, a daughter of the late William and Josephine Giehll.  Prior to her retirement, Irene was employed with K-mart, North Versailles.  She was an avid gardener, enjoyed working in and around her home, cooking, and loved her dog, Rocky.  Irene was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James McCarthy; son, Jimmy McCarthy; brother, William Giehll; and sister, Denise Robson.  She is survived by her son, Patrick McCarthy; daughter, Dana Olson and her husband, Daniel; sister, Cheryl Rosner and her husband, Richard; 4 grandchildren, Daniel, Stephanie, Jessica and Naomi.  Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA on Monday from 4-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the White Oak Animal Safe Haven.  www.shirleyfuneralhome.com.
