John R. Stoffer, 93, formerly of Port Vue, passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2017. He was born in Lamberton, Pennsylvania on March 22, 1924, the son of the late George and Anna Proschok Stoffer.
Husband of the late Margaret Dudik Fabic Stoffer. Loving step-father of JoAnn (the late Tom) Brenner of Level Green, PA and Nancy (the late Joe) Niccolai of Bethel Park, PA. Beloved grandfather of Stacie (Rick) McDermott of Manor, PA, Sherry Niccolai of Austin, TX and Shelley (David) Nill of Bethel Park, PA. Cherished “Zedo” of Ryan and Sydney McDermott.
He is also preceded in death by sisters, Margaret and Anna; and brothers, George and Edward.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Palms at O’Neil and the Dementia Unit at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare-H.J. Heinz Campus for the wonderful care they gave John in his last few years, and extra thanks goes to his great-niece Patti Bosnak for the love and guidance she provided the family.
John was a true American hero. He received the Purple Heart for serious injuries he sustained in battle while proudly serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. In memory of John, the family simply asks that whenever you see a veteran, please stop and thank them for their service to our country and for the many sacrifices they make to protect our freedoms.
Services were held yesterday at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation & Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131, Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor.
