Kathy Tomas, 86, of Lenexa, KS, formerly of Duquesne, PA, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Zaborsko Selo, Croatia, to Mijo and Jela Smenderovac. In 1955, she married her late husband Michael and they had two children before the family immigrated to the United States and settled in Duquesne in 1973. After her husband passed, Kathy moved to Lenexa to stay with her daughter who compassionately cared for her to the end. She was retired from Riverview Center-Jewish Senior Assisted Living Center - Pittsburgh, PA, where she worked as a seamstress for almost 20 years. Kathy loved flowers and enjoyed sewing, needlepointing and gardening. She was a loving, generous and kind person who enjoyed her family and little children. She could light-up a room with a most beautiful smile and, even in her most difficult moments, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren could bring a smile to her face.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.

Kathy is survived by her daughter Mary (Walter) Rendulic; son David (Carla) Tomas; grandchildren Adam and Maria Tomas and Monica (Carlos) Bello; great-grandchildren Julian and Adrian Bello; brother-in-law John (Josephine) Baic; sister-in-law Marica (late Drago) Spudic; and the late Josip (Micika) Tomas and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Holt and the St. Luke’s Hospice staff of Kansas City for their exceptional care, compassion and support.

Visitation will be on Friday, 9/8/2017 from 3-8 PM. at the MALOY - SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, 915 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne, 412-466-3300, Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church on Saturday, 9/9/2017 at 10:00 AM.  Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the Light of the World Parish in Duquesne, PA 15110
