Russell Brown, 90, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Russell retired as a craneman at U.S. Steel Irvin Works after 42 years and was an Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a longtime member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church where he was a member of the dart ball team. He enjoyed his family, friends, woodworking, feeding the birds, and vacationing with his wife in Erie. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness and helpfulness to all who knew him in his neighborhood.
Born November 13, 1926 in Elizabeth, he was the son of the late George Hunter Brown and Jennie (Harkess) Brown. He was the beloved husband of the late Elmira (Casey) Brown, who passed away in 2014, celebrating 62 years of marriage together. He is survived by son, Russell (Tina) Brown of Liberty Borough; daughter, Susan (Aaron) Brown of Elizabeth Twp.; grandchildren, David (Terri) and Danny (Heather) Martin of Aurora, WV, Robin (Chris) Betler of Morgantown, WV, Russell Brown of Liberty Borough, Nicholas (Brittany) Brown of North Huntingdon, and Ryan and Hayden Brown of Elizabeth Twp.; great-granddaughter, Brooke Martin; brothers, Kenneth (Evie) Brown of Clairton and Don (the late Clementine) Brown of Yardley; sister, Sharon (Vern) Shotwell of Spring Hill, TN; son-in-law, Dave Martin of Aurora, WV; sisters-in-law, Edie Brown of Las Vegas and Pat Brown of North Carolina; also, nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Martin, and brothers, Dale and Richard Brown. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth, on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Stephen Morse officiating. Burial will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
