Martha Mae Lucas Brinko Doban, age 95, passed away December 27, 2017, at Redstone Highlands in North Huntingdon, PA. Mae was born December 20, 1922, in Pittsburgh, PA to the late John T. and Martha M. Heisel Lucas.
Mae was the devoted mother of five children and their spouses: Joseph J. Brinko of Edmonton, KY; Edward F. and Elizabeth “Betty” J. Brinko of North Huntingdon, PA; Barbara A. and Barry S. Wernikoff of Gibsonia PA; John A. and Catherine Markee Brinko of Manor, PA; and Kathleen T. Brinko and Jon S. Kwiatkowski of Boone, NC. Mae was also loving grandmother to six grandchildren—Edward F. Brinko, Jr., Michael J. Brinko, Bonnie L. Bailey, Christopher J. Brinko, Mieszko Kwiatkowski, and Leah R. Brinko—seven great-grandchildren—Tyler M. Brinko, Chaya Ariel Brinko, Sierra M. Bailey, Logan M. Brinko, Dylan R. Bailey, Carli R. Brinko, and Dominic J. Brinko. Mae is survived by her dear sister, Kathleen Lucas Martin. In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph C. Brinko and second husband James. P. Doban; her brother and sister-in-law John C. and Elizabeth C. Lucas; and her sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy S. Lucas and Charles G. Welker; Elizabeth Lucas and Joseph S. Slagel; Ruth B. Lucas and Robert L. Winschel; Joseph J. Martin and Marian Lucas Wagner. Mae was an active member of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon, and for almost three decades, wintered in Ft. Myers, FL. Mae enjoyed international travel, entertaining, dancing, bowling, bingo, and playing cards with her many friends. But Mae’s favorite activity was cooking for and spending time with her family. She will most be remembered for her generosity and sense of humor. The family is very grateful to the caring and compassionate staff of Redstone Highlands Senior Living Community. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Redstone Highlands, 12921 Redstone Drive, North Huntingdon, PA 15642. Family and friends will be received Thursday Jan 4th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at JAMES W. SHIRLEY FUNERAL HOME, 176 Clay Pike Rd., North Huntingdon, PA, 15642. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church at 10:00 AM Jan 5th.
