Arthur Lawrence Hartos, age 95 of West Mifflin, rejoined his beloved wife, Blanche Barbara Melcarsky Hartos, in Heaven on Monday, January 8, 2018. He was born September 11, 1922 in Duquesne, the son of the late George and Anna Zombek Hartos and resided at the home that he built with his father in West Mifflin.
Art retired after 42 years of service as a supervisor in the Production Planning Department of U.S. Steel-Duquesne Works. He was a life member of the former Bethlehem Congressional Church in Duquesne. Growing up in the Great Depression, Art was personally frugal but was very generous to his family, whom he loved. He maintained a youthful and hardworking attitude throughout his life was an avid reader, and athlete, and fan of amateur athletics. He will be remembered by his family for his many colorful stories of his youth. In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by his three brothers; George, Alvin, and Donald, and sister Elsie Gavlik. He is survived by his daughter, Karen (James) Chokey of The Woodlands, Texas, and sons; Lawrence (Leslie) Hartos of Duquesne, David (JoAnn) Hartos of Elizabeth Twp., grandchildren; James, Jill, Brian, Jennifer, and Alex, four great grandchildren, sister Eleanor Dobies of San Diego, California, and loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family and friends will be received Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation & Mortuary Service, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412-678-6177) from 4-8 pm where services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 am with Rev. Dave Mozeik officiating. Burial will follow at Round Hill Cemetery. Remembrances in Art’s name may be made to McKeesport Meals on Wheels, 1406 Cornell St., McKeesport, PA 15132.
