Shawn M. McGillis, 42, of North Huntingdon, formerly of the Somerset area, died Wednesday March 23, 2016. He was born April 2, 1973 in Jeannette, a son of Elaine R. (Auckerman) McGillis Winchester and the late Robert W. McGillis and was also preceded in death by his wife, Claire (Bennett) McGillis. Shawn was a graduate of Shanksville High School. He resided in Frederick, MD, for a number of years then in Martinsburg, WV, before returning to the area. He was a former technical engineer for 84 Lumber Co.; a member of First Presbyterian Church, Irwin, and enjoyed hunting.
He was a loving father, and was very active with his daughter’s basketball and softball activities. In addition to his mother he is survived by his daughters, Aimee Kaitlyn and Erin Elisabeth McGillis; his father and mother in law, Mark and Pauline Bennett, and his brother and sister in law Philip and Emma Bennett all of England; also aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends that loved him like a brother. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the William Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will follow at 8:15 p.m. Monday. Private interment will be in Brush Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made to the family to provide for Shawn’s children’s future.
