Charles James Derkas

Charles James Derkas, age 83 of Versailles, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018 in Monroeville Rehabilitation and Wellness Center.  Born January 19, 1935 in Versailles, he was a son of the late Charles James and Julia A. (Mallak) Derkas.  A former carpet installer for Ruben's Furniture Company in McKeesport who also worked as a warehouseman for Mead Paper Company, Charles was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Christy Park and a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War. 

In his spare time, he was an avid bicyclist and active with the Mon Yough Trail Association.  Charles preceded his wife in death by a few hours, the late Margaret Ann (Miller) Derkas, and was also preceded in death by his sister Margaret Roka.  He is survived by his brother Bernard J. Derkas of Versailles and also nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, 4504 Walnut St., Versailles Boro, McKeesport, PA 15132 (412-678-3454) on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 6 to 8 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 in St. Patrick's Church at 10 AM with Fr. Thomas Galvin officiating.  Procession and burial with military honors will follow to Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.  Memorial contributions in Charles' name should be made to the Versailles VFD, 4919 3rd. St., McKeesport, PA 15132.
