William R. Horgos, age 86, of West Elizabeth, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Jefferson Hills Manor. A Navy veteran serving during the Korean War, he was a retired industrial fireman and plant protection specialist for U.S. Steel Clairton Works. He was a lifetime member and former chief of the West Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Company and a former police officer and mayor of West Elizabeth. A former member of St. Isaac Jogues Church, he was a former security guard and weigh master with Dillner Transfer, a ham radio operator (KA3JKK), a captain with the Civil Air Patrol, and a former member of the Clairton Anglers Club.
Born June 24, 1931 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Petro) Horgos and husband of the late Rose M. (Baccile) Horgos. He is survived by son, Michael J. (Ashley Wolfe) Horgos of West Elizabeth; grandchildren, Preston Horgos of South Park and Paige Niezelski of Shanghai, China; also, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sister, Matilda Harris, and brother, John S. Horgos. A memorial gathering will take place in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home,221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth, on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 11:30 AM until the time of service at 12 Noon with Pastor Jude Urso officiating.
