Fred G. Overfield Jr., 94, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Walden's View. He was born July 11, 1924 in Elizabeth, a son of the late Fred G. and Minnie (Packer) Overfield.
Prior to his retirement, Fred was a pole climber and later a dispatcher for Bell Telephone and was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII, Korean War and the Berlin Crisis. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid outdoorsman spending time hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Hopkins Overfield; and brother, Emmett Merrit. He is survived by his sons, Fred Overfield and his wife, Helen, James Overfield and his wife, Kathy, Howard Decker and his wife, Lee; daughters, Diane Wills and her husband, Jim, Judy Aker and her husband, Robert; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park. www.shirleyfuneral home.com.
