William T. Murtha, age 96 of Elizabeth Twp., passed away at Grandview Estates in Elizabeth Twp. on Thursday, October 18, 2018. Born April 21, 1922 in Dravosburg, he was a son of the late John and Marie (Striegel) Murtha. A US Army Air Force Sergeant in the European Theater of World War II, William was a graduate of Duquesne University and a member of St. Michael's Parish in Elizabeth Twp. He retired as general foreman of the yard and transportation at US Steel Clairton Works and was also a former salesman at Eger Motors in McKeesport.
William was a member of the White Oak VFW, the Elizabeth Twp. Lions' Club, the Elizabeth Twp. and McKeesport Seniors, and the East McKeesport Hunting Club. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey (McNutt) Murtha, and his brothers Louis and Kenneth Murtha. William is survived by his sons William Kevin (Linda) Murtha and Thomas Alan (Judy) Murtha, both of Elizabeth Twp.; his grandchildren William (Shelly) Murtha of Pittsburgh, Kevin Murtha of Shadyside, Thomas J. (Sadie) Murtha of Ohio Twp., and Kristi (Michael) Baron of Rutherford, NJ; his great-grandchildren Mia and Colton; his siblings Joseph Glenn (Darlene) Murtha of Houston, TX, Robert (the late Shirley) Murtha of Elizabeth Twp., Timothy Ronald (Lida) Murtha of Lakewood Ranch, FL, June (the late James) Andrews of Elizabeth Twp., and James (Jackie) Murtha of Elizabeth Twp.; his sisters-in-law Lois Murtha of Pierpont, OH and Esther Murtha of Elizabeth Twp.; his companion Molly Haughey; and also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, 4504 Walnut St., Versailles Borough, McKeesport, PA 15132 (412-678-3454) on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from Noon to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10 AM in St. Michael's Church with Fr. Thomas Wagner officiating. Procession and interment will follow to Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.
