Shirley Ann (Caulfield) Barnes, age 86 of Versailles, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 in Concordia of Monroeville where she resided. She was born February 21 1932 in McKeesport to the late Richard J. and Margaret C. (McCarren) Caulfield and was a graduate of McKeesport High School. Afterwards, Shirley worked as a secretary for Fisher Body of West Mifflin until her marriage. When her children were grown, she worked for the McKeesport Chamber of commerce. Shirley always worked tirelessly at home for her family. She was an avid sewer and quilter and she and her daughter Susan belonged to a local quilting club and enjoyed making quilts and blankets for those in need. She was a skilled seamstress who made beautiful clothing and other items for her family. She also baked delicious bread and canned fruits and vegetables from her large garden and fruit trees.
Shirley was an active member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles until its closing and was then an active member of St. Mary's Romanian Catholic Church in McKeesport until its closure. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arthur W. Barnes, Jr.; her daughter Susan B. Barnes; her grandson Nathan B. Trapuzzano; her son-in-law Tom Napier; her three sisters Margaret McCusker, Mary Patricia Balzer, and Sara Jane Butler; and her two brothers Richard J. Caulfield and John P. Caulfield. Shirley is survived by her precious family: children Jeanne M. Napier of Melbourne, FL, Arthur W. (Francine) Barnes, III of Whitaker, Cheryl A. (Robert Lingenfelser) Trapuzzano of Franklin Park, Loretta J. (David) Porter of Plantation, FL, Paul R. (Leanne) Barnes of Irwin, Michael D. (Tiffany) Barnes of Versailles, and Amy (Ed Ruffing) Barnes of Versailles; her fourteen grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; her three sisters Rosemary (Ted) Smith of North Huntingdon, Frances West of Monroeville, and Kathleen (Jan) Vanderweerd of the Netherlands; her sister-and-brother-in-law Vera Jeanne and Al Johnson of White Oak; and also many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, Versailles, on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on for Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10 AM in St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, White Oak. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp.
