Richard H. Scales, 91, of Upper St. Clair, formerly of Elizabeth Township, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Friendship Village of South Hills.
He retired as Director of Security for G.C. Murphy Co. in McKeesport. A veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II, Richard was a member of Round Hill Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth Township. A member of Masonic Lodge #111 in Baltimore, MD, he was a longtime volunteer with Meals on Wheels and longtime member of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association. Along with his late wife, they were craft vendors at Fort Ligonier Days. A volunteer at Friendship Village, he was an avid woodworker, gardener and golfer, and enjoyed spending time with family. Born February 24, 1925 in Sutersville, he was a son of the late George and Edith (Lawton) Scales and husband of the late J. Lorraine (Fedarko) Scales. Richard is survived by his children, Deborah (Chuck) Amore of Canonsburg; Jeffrey (Patty) Scales of Elizabeth Township; Melanie (Dennis) Worthy of Milwaukee, WI and Scott (Dana) Scales of Newnan, GA; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 N. Second Ave., Elizabeth, PA, 412-384-4344 on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will take place on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 10:00 AM in Round Hill Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. D. Matthew Stith officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.
