John E. “Pap” Ravey, 91, of New Kensington, formerly of White Oak, died Sunday, May 15, 2016. He was born in Braddock on November 27, 1924 and is the son the late Michael and the late Clara (Brahler) Ravey and the husband of the late Eileen J. Babyak Ravey.
He was an industrial engineer at Westinghouse until he retired. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was present at the Japanese Surrender of the Tokyo Bay Signing of the Peace Treaty on Sept. 2, 1945. He was a member of the VFW Post 8430 in East McKeesport. He was a money counter for St. Margaret Mary Church in Lower Burrell and was an usher at St. Angela Merici Church in White Oak for years.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Dr. Wayne) Decroo of Lower Burrell; son, Thomas (Roberta) Ravey of Allison Park; sister, Carolyn (James) Erbrecht of McMurray; grandson, Jeremy (Katie) Hanz of Allegheny Twp.; great-grandson, Jared Hanz; He is preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, William and Robert Ravey.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES INC., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177) and at 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Rusiewicz of Lower Burrell Funeral Home, 3124 Leechburg Rd. @ Alder St., Lower Burrell, PA 15068. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Friday at St. Margaret Mary Church, Lower Burrell, with Very Rev. Kenneth G. Zaccagnini officiating.
