Angelo J. Vergona, 95, of Elizabeth, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 in Mt. Vernon of Elizabeth.
A World War II Navy veteran, he retired as an engineer at Bettis in West Mifflin. Angelo was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp. and enjoyed playing shuffleboard and working with electronics and ham radio. He was born on Jan. 5, 1921 in Swissvale, a son of the late Domenic and Rose (Fazio) Virgona and husband of the late Julia M. (Phillips) Vergona, who died in 2001. Angelo is survived by his daughter, Rosemarie (Donald) Garofolo of Elizabeth Twp.; sons, Ronald (Kathy) Vergona of Scott Twp. and Thomas (Debra) Vergona of Idaho Falls, Idaho; grandchildren, Pam (Matt) Bloomer of Elizabeth Twp., Raymond Vergona of Scott Twp., and Jim (Darci) Garofolo of Elizabeth Twp.; five great-grandchildren; sister, Angela DeNardo of Forest Hills; brother, Domenic (Joan) Virgona of Clairton; dear friend, Betty Cashmer; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Ave. Elizabeth, PA 15037, 412-384-4344, on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial with Rev. James Bump officiating will take place on Friday, May 20, 2016, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Parish. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park in Pleasant Hills.
