Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | April 15, 2020
Andrea Claire Matason Sopira, age 46, of North Versailles, PA, was born on April 18, 1973 at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC in Pittsburgh and passed away peacefully on April 13, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, after a multiple year battle with recurring attacks of pancreatitis.
She was the beloved daughter of Richard and Sandra Matason of North Huntingdon, PA, loving sister of Alexa Matason Spriggs of Cumberland Maryland, goddaughter of her aunt and godmother Patricia Legge, and godmother to her beautiful niece, Corrine Elizabeth Spriggs. She is also survived by her grandmother, Josie Donell, age 102, four aunts, five uncles, ten cousins, seven nieces and nephews and a very devoted and loving friend. She was preceded in death by her godfather, Patrick Boyle.
A graduate of Norwin High School in 1991, Andrea studied to be a Veterinary Technician at the Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburgh and was later employed as a Client Care Coordinator at Avets Veterinary Hospital in Monroeville. After Avets, she was employed by PNC Bank in Pittsburgh as a Customer Service Representative II, and as a Financial Services Consultant who assisted customers with account related issues.
Andrea used her work experience from Avets and from PNC to start a small business named Claws N’ Paws Pet Sitting, located in North Versailles, which she owned and operated. Andrea’s love of animals, especially cats, was well-known among family, friends and clients. She loved all animals but her soft spot was for cats, of which she proudly had five – Sammy, Vinnie, Franko, Stormy Jones, and Bela- that will miss her dearly. She also was a strong supporter of various animal rescue shelters and services in the Allegheny and Westmoreland County area.
Andrea will always be remembered for her infectious smile, her wonderful sense of humor, her friendliness, her willingness to unselfishly help those in need, and especially for her unconditional love of animals. The motto on her Claw N’ Paws FaceBook is: “I’m just a bright ray of sunshine! Seriously! Oh, and if you didn’t know, I LOVE CATS!”
