Joseph J. Berger, age 86, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
He was born May 3, 1930 in Homestead, PA, a son of the late Joseph and Helen Karpach Berger. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, retired from U.S. Steel, Homestead Works, and Fox Chapel Country Day School. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, The Thompson Run Athletic Association and a member of AARP #3221. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Wachter. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Bernice "Bunny" Schick Berger; children, Janet Oddo (Peter), Lee Ann Cunningham (Paul), Judith Zarbus (John) and Jeffrey Berger (Susan); 6 grandchildren, Lisa (Mike) Seifert, Andrew Oddo, Jill (Keith) Myers, Emily (Chris) Itle, Scott (Jessica) Zarbus, Olivia Berger; step-granddaughter, Carrie Cunningham, two great-grandchildren, Brady Seifert and Harper Myers; brother, Donald Berger; and sister, Peggy Davis. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA on Monday from 2-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, North Huntingdon, with Fr. Len Stoviak officiating. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Norwin Meals-on-wheel. www.shirleyfuneralhome.com.
