Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | December 12, 2020

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Darrell Joseph Dole, 83, of North Huntingdon.  He died Friday, December 11, 2020, surrounded by his living family.  Darrell was born on September 16, 1937, the son of the late J. Douglass and Doris Dole.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Ann (Soltis) Dole; his three children, Kristine R. Dole-Mong and her husband, Jason, Danielle A. Baker and her husband, Paul and Matthew D. Dole and his wife, Ashley; beloved grandchildren, Caleb J. and Emma G. Dole and Emily (Nathan) Everly and Raymond Baker; as well as four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and many wonderful nieces and nephews.  Darrell was born in New York and grew up in the Mount Lebanon area of Pittsburgh.  He graduated from Mount Lebanon High School and attended Washington and Jefferson College prior to enlisting in the US Air Force.

Darrell's career started at Bell Telephone of Pa. and spanned thru AT&T, Lucent Technologies as a data communication until his early retirement.  Then began consulting work with Hyperion and with Dante Corp. which sent him on projects throughout the US,  giving him an opportunity to see more of his beautiful homeland, the good old U.S. of A.

Darrel loved to listen to music and collected pieces from classical and oldies and much in between, his longtime favorites being Willie Nelson and John Denver.  He so enjoyed the outdoors from fly fishing the Snake River in Idaho to trap shooting at the Trafford Gun Club, and to his favorite downhill skiing.  He taught  his children how to ski and enjoy the outdoors as a family.  He was his children’s biggest fan from assisting swimming, coach and volunteering on the soccer, baseball fields and basketball courts to camping with Indian Princess Programs.  Darrell enjoyed and looked forward to “hamburger nights” at the Elks and dinner at the Ride & Hunt Club for late night drinks with dear friends.  He was a member of PISA for 40 years enjoying being a part-time ski instructor at Seven Spring Ski Resort, where he met his Ann and where they made many wonderful memories with their three children.  Services will be private and a memorial will be held at a later date.  Arrangements made by the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA.  Memorials may be made to the Wreaths Across American in memory of Darrell.  www.shirleyfuneralhome.com
