Edward A. Matias, 90, of Glassport died Wednesday December 23, 2020. He is the son of the late Alois and Kathryn (Popelka) Matias. He is the beloved husband of 68 years to Frances (Dworek) Matias. He is survived by sons Robert (Susan) Matias and Anthony (Terry) Matias; daughter Linda (Mark) Matias; grandchildren Eric (Kristen) Matias, Benjamin Matias, and Michelle (Mike) Banaszak; great-grandchildren Samuel and Alexander Matias, Bradley and Brianna Banaszak; sister-in-laws Irene Orenak and Martha Opfer; brother-in-law Ted (Pauline) Dworek; also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Frank and William Matias. sister Lydia Kraus, and granddaughter Valerie Matias. He was retired from U.S. Steel Clairton Works and was a private pilot since the age of 17. He and his brother Frank were the owners/operators of Frank's Aviation in Apollo. Edward was a member of Queen of the Rosary Parish and the Aircraft Owner and Pilot's Association and served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. He was also very devoted to animals, especially his two cats. Friends received Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport Sunday 4-8. A funeral mass will be held Monday 12:30 at Queen of the Rosary Parish. Interment following Round Hill Cemetery.
