Betty Novakovich

Alfieri Funeral Home

Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | February 25, 2021

Betty Novakovich, 82, died Sunday, February 21, 2021. Born to Teodor and Danica Novakovic on December 31, 1938 in Wall, Pennsylvania, the family had six children: Dan, John “Lefty”, Charlie, Mitzi, Betty & Martha.  All of the children were members of the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church at one time in their life. Betty remained a faithful lifelong member of the church — singing in the church choir for years and professing her faith each and every Sunday.

Betty attended Westinghouse Memorial High School and graduated in 1956.  She was a proud and loyal employee of US Steel for decades until she retired in 2009.  Because she enjoyed keeping busy, after retirement she worked at several part time administrative jobs until only a few years ago.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards with friends as well as going to local bingos and casinos.  Friends considered her “lucky” - but the lucky ones were her loved ones!  Somehow, Betty managed to remain close to each and every one of them individually.  It was rare for her to miss a birthday or special occasion.

She will forever be remembered as a very unique, special, kind & generous aunt that everyone wishes they had.  There’s no denying that she instantly brightened up any room that she entered - always lively and smiling.

Betty is survived by her sister Martha (Novakovich) Rubino, sister-in-law Barb Novakovich and many nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews:  Robert (Andrea) Vukic; Thomas (Patty) Vukic & children Kelsey and Dane; Denise (Vladimir) Brajovic & children Nina and Marina; Mary Martha Thomas & daughter Krystelle (Marc) & their daughter Gabriella; Daniel (Kathy) Novakovich & daughter Maresa (Ethan); John David (Debbie) Novakovich & children Jacob and Rachel; Donna Marie (Kenny) Groff & children Justin (Amanda) Groff & their children Natalie and Cole along with Nicole (Corey) Bostian & their children Naomi and Cylas; Mark (Lois) Novakovich & children Ryan and Noelle; Roy (Cathie) Novakovich; Dawna (Brian) Mains & children Tyler (Alex) and Hunter; and John (Carrie) Rubino & children Bryce and Marissa.

Friends will be received at the Alfieri Funeral Home 201 Marguerite Ave. Wilmerding, PA 15148 on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 3pm - 5pm and 6pm - 8pm with the Pomen at 7pm.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday February 27, 2021 at St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church 2110 Haymaker Road Monroeville PA at 11 am with Fr. Stefan Djoric and Fr. George Veselinovic presiding.  Everyone please meet at the church.  Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.  It was Betty’s wish that all memorial gifts be directed to the church in her name.

Masks and social distancing are required in the funeral home and church. Please visit us at www.alfierifuneralhome.com for online condolences.
