Joseph F. Skalican, age 95, of West Mifflin, passed away on March 8, 2021, at Harmar Village Care Center-Cheswick. Born in Duquesne on March 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Meschanik) Skalican. He was retired from U.S. Steel-Duquesne Works as a Motor Inspector, was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Trinity Church, West Mifflin, a member of their Men’s Club, worked at the Church fish fry for many years, and he proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He enjoyed taking care of fruit trees, his vegetable garden, and flower beds & hedges, liked to go dancing and was an avid coffee drinker. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Veronica (Dudash) Skalican; father of Juliann F. Skalican and her husband, Geoffrey Crowe of Penn Hills; grandfather of Julia Marion Crowe (Adam); and is also survived by in-laws, Donald Rausch and Margaret Forsythe and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Sylvester Skalican, Mary Danaluk, Helen Karlowski, Stephen Skalican and Veronica Kostrub. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. SCHLEIFER-SUPERVISOR, WILLIAM BRIAN SCHLEIFER-FUNERAL DIRECTOR, where a blessing service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 9:30 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Church, West Mifflin, with the Rev. Michael Conway officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, West Mifflin, with Military Honors.
