James F. Dittman, Sr., 90 years old, of West Mifflin, passed away on September 30, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rella B. (Grooms) and Jerome J. Dittman, brothers Thomas and Rev. Bernard Dittman, and his beloved wife of 63 years Joan B. (Leskovitz) Dittman. He is survived by his children, Jerome (Beth) of Mesquite, TX, James, Jr. of South Park, Marianne Terrazas of Fountain Hills, AZ, Robert (Karen) of Irwin, Bernard (Krisha) of Westminster, MD, Linda of West Mifflin, Cynthia (Dr. Ken Fasanella) Dittman of Allison Park, and Susan Gamble of Shadyside; grandchildren Angela (Zach) Egbert, Jennifer (Jesse) Buenrostro, Victor Terrazzas, James Dittman, Dr. Lauren Dittman, Thomas Dittman, Jessica (Dr. Chuck) Gabbert, Ryan Long, Jillian Long, Rebecca Long, Margo Gamble and Isaac Gamble; six great-grandchildren, Luke and Madeline Egbert, Bethany Buenrostro, Nora and Riley Gabbert; brother, Jerome (Helen) Dittman. Jim was an Army veteran, serving in Europe during the Korean War. He was an usher and member of St. Joseph Church of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, where he volunteered at their Lenten fish fry, member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Teutonia Mannerchor Club of Duquesne. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and overall outdoorsman. In retirement, he throughly enjoyed his role as a grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed the many birds, squirrels and deer that visited his yard and back porch. He took pride in his many different types of flowers that he grew. Jim was a graduate of Duquesne High School. He was a hard worker, many times working three jobs to support his family of eight children. Jim worked for Noble J. Dick, Linde Air Products, Levine Hardware and UPMC Montefiore Hospital, where he retired as a purchasing manager. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, October 8, 2021 from 2-8 p.m. at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. SCHLEIFER, SUPERVISOR, WILLIAM BRIAN SCHLEIFER, FUNERAL DIRECTOR, where a Blessing Service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, Duquesne, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Michael Conway, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Mifflin, with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, 1 North Linden St., Duquesne, PA 15110.
