Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | October 20, 2021
Kathleen Dillon Rendulic, 79, of Hempfield Township, formerly of McKeesport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 surrounded by the love of her family after a long and difficult illness. Born November 24, 1941 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Mildred Cochenour Dillon. She graduated at the top of her class from McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse. She was so proud to have been a nurse and spent a lifetime caring for others. As dementia slowly took her from us, we could always count on talking to her about having been a nurse to bring back the sparkle in her eye as we recalled the many stories. Other than her family, there is nothing of which she was prouder. She went on to teach nurses and EMTs at Community College of Allegheny County and worked at Highmark from which she retired as a Claims Reviewer. In 2013, she was honored as a member of the Retired Nurses Working in Neighborhoods team and received the Jefferson Award for Public Service. She loved to sing and was a member of the Sacred Heart choir in McKeesport where together with her husband, they recorded a Christmas album with the choir of which they were so proud.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 65 years, David A. Rendulic; sons, David W. (Susan) Rendulic of Mt. Lebanon; Mark R. (Lisa) Rendulic of Hempfield Township; daughter, Mary L. (Heath) Loera of Bethel Park; and ten grandchildren, Katelyn; Sarah; Jack; Nick; Cameron; Cole; Brendan; Aislinn; Christopher; and Parker.
65 years ago, our father took Kathleen sled riding and as they went down the hill and crashed, he said to her “Can’t you see how much I love you?” and that began a love story that lasted for over 65 years. Our father showed us what it means to live up to the vows he took nearly 60 years ago and how to truly love someone unconditionally. We of course miss her but are grateful for the opportunity to have had her in our lives, grateful for family and friends who have prayed for her and brought joy to her along the way and grateful for God’s mercy in her final days and for His promise that she will have eternal life.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177).
