CYNTHIA BATES
Always the brightest smile in the room, Cynthia A. “Cindy” (Funk) Bates, 58, of West Mifflin, passed away Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, in the Jefferson Hospital ICU due to Covid complications.
Beloved daughter of Ronald and Patricia (Dancak) Funk of White Oak, formerly of West Mifflin, she was born Feb. 22, 1963, in McKeesport. A 1981 graduate of West Mifflin North High School, she was a customer service representative/nonclinical technician with Express Scripts in Irwin for many years and was formerly employed in the pharmacy at Rite Aid in West Mifflin.
She is survived by her parents; son, James Bates (Tiffany Phillips) of Grindstone; granddaughter, Sophia, who was the light of Cindy’s life; brother, Thomas Funk (Kirsten Pastrick) of North Huntingdon; sister, Diane (Peter) Mills of Naples, Fla.; aunts, Alberta (late Rich) Webb and Barbara (late David) Funk; cousins, Richard Webb and Phillip Webb; nieces, Amie and Claire; great niece, Olivia; and many very dear friends.
A caring daughter, thoughtful sister and niece, great mom and proud grandmother, Cindy could always be counted on. Whether taking care of her parents, being out with friends, or playing with her granddaughter (which she liked best), Cindy had the greatest smile, bubbly personality and a terrific attitude!
She especially loved spending time with her boyfriend, Steve Bower, and they recently were able to enjoy a trip to Sturgis with friends.
So full of life, Cindy had such a beautiful bright soul and was easy to talk to and very understanding.
Friends will be received Wednesday Dec. 8, 2021, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. in the Maloy-Schleifer Funeral Home, Inc., 915 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne, (412-466-3300). A blessing will be offered there Thursday at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Duquesne.
