Miriam (Karstunen) Zalewski, age 98, of McMurray, formerly of Forward Twp., passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at UPMC Mercy. She retired after 19 years as office manager for Stanley Tire in Elizabeth and was a former member of the Palisades Dance Group. Born October 6, 1923 in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Hjalmar and Aino (Krook) Karstunen and wife of the late Chester W. Zalewski. She is survived by children, Chester J. Zalewski of McMurray, Carmela (Robert) Yuhas of West Newton, David Zalewski of Washington and Anita Cindrich of Elizabeth Twp.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, William T. Zalewski; grandson, Gage Blanish; great-great-granddaughter, Lillian Conley; sister, Norma Estok; and companion, Lee Stanley. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will take place on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. William K. Little officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to Boys Town, 14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010.
