Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | March 06, 2022

Fiorina Tabacco, 92, of White Oak, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Transitions Healthcare in North Huntingdon. Born April 2, 1929 in the village of Rocca Pia, Abruzzo region, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Angela Ciotti DiSanto and Pietro DiSanto. For 60 years until his death in 2007, she was the loving wife of the late Vittorio Tabacco. She was also preceded in death by her sister Giuseppina DiSanto and brother Silvio DiSanto. She is survived by her daughter Adeline (Jeffrey) Weissert, grandson Michael Macedonia, great-granddaughter Daphne Macedonia, sister Lucia Berarducci, and several nieces and nephews.

Fiorina emigrated to the United States in 1951 with her late husband (Vittorio) and daughter (Adeline) where the family settled in McKeesport, PA. A dedicated and devoted homemaker, Fiorina’s love and commitment to family were her lifelong guiding principles. She loved preparing traditional dishes from her native Italy (especially homemade ravioli and gnocchi) for family and friends. During the 1970’s, 80’s, 90’s, and well into the 00’s Fiorina also worked (as a physical laborer!) with her late husband in their independent contracting business. They were a familiar sight working seven days per week on jobs around the McKeesport area until finally retiring when Vittorio reached age 85 and Fiorina was 74. Until shortly before her passing, she continued to live independently, preparing food and demonstrating remarkable toughness.
