William P. Dougherty, of White Oak, passed away on April 18, 2022. He was born September 22, 1950 in McKeesport and is the son of the late James “Ted” and Mary Ann Pomaibo Dougherty. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 until 1974, while serving two tours in Vietnam, served in the U.S. Navy from 1975 until 1977, and in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1978 until 1979. He was a former Commander of General Smedley D. Butler, White Oak American Legion, Post 701 in White Oak. In the early eighties he was a McKeesport City Council member, coached football for the McKeesport Little Tigers, and coached baseball for the McKeesport Pony League. He also played softball on many teams and loved to golf and travel. He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Elash.
Family and friends will gather at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177) on Thursday April 21, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
