Ella Mae Jones
Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | April 03, 2023
Ella Mae Jones, 81, also known as Noogie of Duquesne, was born on April 3, 1941, in Robeson County, NC. She was the beloved daughter to the late Charles and Queenella (Mclean) Hopes.
Ella graduated from McKeesport High School. She was the 2nd oldest of 7 children, whom she loved dearly. Ella loved being with family and would attend every family function just so she could be around those she loved. Ella also was known to tell it how it was, she didn’t sugarcoat anything, so if you were around her you better have tough skin and virgin ears.
Ella was a very generous individual. If she had it, you had it. Ella was crazy about her sons and grandchildren. She would make sure that she was at every sporting event, birthday parties, and graduations. Being a single mom, she knew that she had to be both mom and dad for her sons, John and Paul. She would work various jobs such as Secretarial work for the Steel Mill, Federal Government, and in her later years Hills and Ames Department Store.
Ella loved hanging out with her sisters and brothers whether it was going to Church or her favorite spot the Flea Market, she would collect all types of things that were valuable to her. She would tell her kids and grandchildren how she traveled across the U.S. from the east coast to the west coast all the way to the state of California and that made her very excited to see how their faces would light up when she told them the stories.
Ella was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in McKeesport. Ella departed this life on March 26, 2023, in Duquesne, PA. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Wesley Hopes, Sr., and mother, Queenella (Mclean) Hopes.
Ella is survived by her loving two sons, John Henry (Stacey) Jones, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jonathan Paul Jones of McKeesport, PA, and nine grandchildren; Teahauna Floyd, Lynnice Jones, William Jones, Dexter Jones, Sheldon Loughner, Sabrina Jones, Michael Jones, Nyjah Jenkins-Jones, Bryson Jones, six, great-grandchildren; three sisters, Orbelle (Jessie) Henderson, Charlene (Richard) Rouse, Flora Blannon; three brothers, Charles Wesley Hopes, Jr., James Hopes, Timothy (Lydia) Hopes; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
