Ruth Carol Wolf, 86, of Monroeville, formerly of North Versailles, passed away peacefully at home on Friday October 27, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born June 1, 1937 in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Frank P. Schomaker and Ruth S. (Stanley) Schomaker, and was preceded in death by her sister Martha “Mardi” Hoofnagle.
Carol was a graduate of East McKeesport High School and attended Slippery Rock State College (now SRU). She worked briefly at Bell Telephone in the early 1960’s and spent several years volunteering with the Girl Scouts of SWPA. Carol was a registered Girl Scout for 35 years. She began as a Troop Leader and ascended through the ranks to serve two terms as First Vice President of the Girl Scouts of SWPA Council.
Carol’s faith was very important to her. She grew up in, and later rejoined Linway United Presbyterian Church, North Versailles, after Wilkinsburg Baptist Church – the church she joined upon marrying her beloved husband, John H. Wolf, closed in the early 2000s. Carol’s most cherished moments were spent with her family. She really enjoyed good cappuccino, shopping with her daughters, dining out with and attending events with her friends. Her most cherished times were spent vacationing with her husband on Martha’s Vineyard, Nags Head, and Amelia Island.
She also was an annual participant and prolific fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Carol was a devoted and loving wife for 59 years to John H. “Jack” Wolf. (John H. Wolf passed away on October 28, 2023.) Carol is survived by her children Linda R. (William) Peifer of Plum, Nancy C. Wolf (Jacob Rosengarten) of Greenwich, CT and Juno Beach, FL, and Tamila L. Wolf (Robert J. Boyd) of Valencia; grandchildren Brandon W. Peifer (Alexis A. Nesbit) of Plum, Cristina C. (Pereira) LaRue (Justin P. LaRue) of Sandwich, NH, Elizabeth R. Wolf and Jonathan Rosengarten of Greenwich, CT; great grandchildren William J. R. Peifer, Madeline J. Peifer, Emily A. Peifer, and Cooper J. LaRue; brother in law and sister in law James N. and Linda (Day) Wolf, along with cousins, nieces and nephews. The loss of our beautiful and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother leaves a gaping hole in our hearts and in our family. Along with dad, she created and maintained a nurturing, meticulously kept and comfortable home for the entire family to gather at any time. Growing up in their parents’ home, her children were well-provided for. Carol was a cherished friend to many who appreciated her loyal friendship and her ability to be an excellent listener who lent solid advice without judgment or telling others what they should do. Many of her acts of kindness and generosity were known only to their beneficiaries, as she didn’t desire recognition. What gave her the most joy and comfort was the happiness, health and safety of her friends, family and especially the well-being of her husband, Jack. Carol and Jack had an enduring love and were fierce protectors of each other. Therefore, it surely was no coincidence that they left this world close to each other so that they could enter heaven, together - hand in hand. A joint memorial service was held for Carol and Jack on November 12, 2023, at Linway United Presbyterian Church, North Versailles.
