W. Gene Perkins, age 84 of Irwin, passed away on February 12, 2024 at Montefiore Hospital. He was born on April 24, 1939 in Crichton, WV, a son of the late John Samuel and Olive Margaret Rader Perkins. Gene was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin. Prior to his retirement, he was a Data Officer at Mellon Bank. He was a volunteer at the Wesley Chapel Food Bank in Florida, a past president of the former Alcoma Golf Club, and past president of the Men's Club at the Saddlebrook Golf and Tennis Resort in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Gene was an avid golfer and dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. He was a graduate of Fairmont State University in West Virginia where he played football and ran track. In addition, Gene was the first ever president of the TKE Fraternity. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother Edwin Harold and his wife Nancy, sister Evelyn Rae Odell and husband Rodney, and nephew Matthew Wayne Perkins. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Barbara Ferrari Perkins, sons Joe (Linda) and Chris (Kristin) Perkins, brother Robert Lee (Reba) Perkins, Jack Wayne (Claren) Perkins, and grandchildren Michael (Ashleigh), Nathan, Matthew, Courtney, and Jake Perkins, great-granddaughter Ellie, and 13 nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-7PM at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon PA. A funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday at 9AM.
