Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | March 02, 2024
Donald (Don) Paul Flading of North Huntingdon, 90, passed away on March 1, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on December 12, 1933 in McKeesport, the son of Paul and Gertrude (Gessner) Flading. Donald was a 1951 graduate of McKeesport Vocational High School and continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh. He was a long-time employee of Westinghouse where he worked as a drafting supervisor. In 1955 he married his high school sweetheart Janet Miller of McKeesport. During their 69-year marriage, they lived in Port Vue, North Huntingdon and Pomona California, before returning to North Huntingdon. Don's devotion to his beloved Janet was evident to all who knew him. He loved traveling the country with his family, embarking on an epic four-week cross-country vacation in 1969 with his wife and four young children in a paneled station wagon that created wonderful memories we will always cherish. In his later years, Don and Janet vacationed frequently in Florida where Don enjoyed walks on the beach and fishing. He cherished his time with his devoted wife, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Simply stated, Don Flading was a nice guy. Always ready to lend a helping hand, with a soft smile and a twinkle in his baby blue eyes. He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother Ralph, beloved son David and daughter-in-law Sherry (Palmquist) Flading. He is survived by his wife Janet, son Mark of Jupiter, Florida, daughter Pam Dawson (Tim) of Irwin, daughter Jill Ingram (Bruce) of North Huntingdon, daughter-in-law Jeanne Mabry of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren Garrett Ingram, Jessica (Flading) Stouffer (Pat), Sean Dawson (Megan Szymanski), Shane Ingram (Gabrielle), Kelsey Dawson, Lyndie Mabry, Mattie Flading; great granddaughter Quinn Ingram; sisters Shirley Hanko, Joan DeCecco, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, on Monday from 2 P.M. to 7 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 A.M. in Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin, with interment to follow in Penn Lincoln Cemetery. The Flading family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Redstone Highlands, North Huntingdon, for their care and compassion. www.shirleyfuneralhome.comOriginally published March 02, 2024.
