We mourn the passing of Dorothy (Elaine) Stache Ervin, a remarkable woman whose life touched so many. Dorothy was born on April 8, 1929, in Charleroi and dedicated her life as a teacher, shaping the minds of countless young students. She was the daughter of the late Mary (Spisak) Stache and Joseph Stache, and the wife of the late Rev. William E. Ervin, Jr. On March 16, 2024, at the age of 94, Dorothy peacefully passed away at Concordia of Cranberry, leaving behind a legacy of love and wisdom.
Dorothy's devotion to education extended beyond the classroom as she founded the St. John's Christian Pre-School in Thurmont, MD, a testament to her passion for nurturing young minds. Her accomplishments were celebrated at the 40th Anniversary of the school, highlighting her dedication and unwavering commitment to education. A proud member of the Faith Lutheran Church in White Oak, Dorothy's faith was the guiding light in her life, shaping her values and principles.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Dorothy was an avid traveler, finding joy in exploring new cultures and countries, with a particular fondness for Europe and Slovakia. Her love for gardening and sewing reflected her creative spirit and passion for craftsmanship. Dorothy was also a member of the John Kollar Slovak Society in Pittsburgh, further demonstrating her deep appreciation for her heritage and community. Additionally Dorothy had been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Dorothy's memory will forever be cherished by her children, Kristina Gregory of Gibsonia, Karen Ervin of St. Catharines, Ontario, Karl Ervin of Franklin, ME, and Kirk Ervin of Severna Park, MD; grandchildren, Michael Gregory, Laura Gregory, Eerik Ervin, Isaac Smialek, and Patrik Ervin; great-granddaughters, McKinley, Maggie, and Mia; brother, August Stache of Reading, PA; also nieces, nephews, and those fortunate enough to have known her. Her kindness, grace, and unwavering love will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Stache.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral & Crematory on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from Noon until the time of service at 1 p.m., in the funeral home chapel.
