Bessie I. (Gongaware) Christenson, 100, of Irwin, passed away Monday March 25, 2024. She was born August 18, 1923, in North Huntingdon, a daughter of the late Jessiah and Myrtle (Billingsley) Gongaware. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Earl A. Christenson; siblings Gertrude Lamison, Violet Loughner, Ella Holder, Elmer Gongaware, and Leonard Gongaware. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Irwin, and prior to retirement she worked as a secretary at O'Brien Eye Care, Irwin. Bessie is survived by her sister Naomi B. Kapelar of Irwin; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Friends and family will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, at the William Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Rev. John Gropp officiating. Interment will be private.
