Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | May 15, 2024

Officer K-9 Eli Novacek, 9 years old, dedicated police canine and family dog of Elizabeth Township Police Department passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Eli was sworn into duty May 26, 2016 and was trained in patrol & narcotics. During his time on duty, he was responsible for numerous drug raids, and arrests. Outside of patrol, Eli was an amazing family dog with an outgoing personality. You would often see Eli with his handler Officer Dan Novacek at every event the township and school district held. From attending new business' opening days, to all holiday parades, and even the PR events and take your child to work days - Eli was right there. He was fantastic with kids. Always playful and energetic, and if you ever threw his red Kong ball, even just once, your friendship was instant. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of the businesses and sponsors over the years who have donated and supported Eli through his entire career.

Officer Eli is survived by his K-9 Handler & family, Dan Novacek, officer in the township for 15 years, his wife, Autumn & their daughter Livia. He will be extremely missed by his fellow officers & K-9 Bear. There will be a Memorial held for K-9 Officer Eli on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 12-2pm & 4-8pm at the Boston Spectrum - Elizabeth Township. Arrangements were made at Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412)751-5000 Drew J.
