Betty Mae Helmick, age 83, of Glassport, died January 23, 2016, at John J. Kane Regional Medical Center. Born May 20, 1932, in Petersburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Beulah (Shreves) Simmons and the wife of the late William Harrison Helmick.
Betty dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a devoted Christian and lifelong member of the Glassport Assembly of God Church, where she was the former treasurer. She loved to bake and make homemade soups. Betty would open her home and heart to anyone that she touched in her life.
She is survived by children, Carol (Howard) Kifer of Glassport, Bonnie (Joseph) Tusai of West Mifflin, Linda Gilbert of Elizabeth, Debra (Joseph) DiNardo of North Versailles, Sharon (Steve) Chapko of West Mifflin, William B. Helmick of Port Vue, Vicky (Dennis) Hofler of Pittsburgh and Paul Helmick of Pittsburgh; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; siblings, Barbara, Donald, Charles, Twila and Richard all of West Virginia, Shirley of Uniontown and Wayne of Baldwin; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Betty was preceded in death by brothers, Billie and Gary; son-in-law, Kenneth Gilbert.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Services will be held on Thursday, 10 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Pastors Patrick Pugh and Emory Nazelrod officiating.
Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery.
