Donna "Nina" (McBride) Parkins Vavrek

On July 19, 2024, McKeesport bid farewell to a beloved member of its community, Donna G. "Nina" (McBride) Parkins Vavrek. Born on December 24, 1948, Donna was the daughter of Daddy Bob and Hannah McBride. Throughout her 75 years of life, Donna truly embodied the spirit of love and compassion.

Married to her devoted husband John B. Vavrek for 45 years, Nina's warmth and caring nature extended beyond her own family. As the former owner of Parkins Adult Care Home and Heritage Home for the Elderly, Nina touched the lives of many in the community. Her dedication to serving others was further demonstrated through her 20 years of service as a Medical Advocate at Woman's Place of McKeesport. Nina's passion for family and community events was evident to all who knew her. Her social nature and love for spending time with her loved ones brought joy to those around her. In her absence, McKeesport mourns the loss of a truly remarkable individual.

She was also an animal lover, leaving behind her beloved cats Mr. D and Fizzy and granddogs, Jax and Rebel; and many extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Nina is survived by children, April (Dan) Towner and Shon (Lacee) Parkins; step-children, Robin Vavrek and Johnny (Melissa) Vavrek; grandchildren, Kayla (Matt) Yanosky, Cody Towner, Gavin Parkins, Avrey Parkins, Johnny Vavrek, Bonnie Vavrek, and Michael Vavrek; great-granddaughter, Emma Yanosky; also many extended family and friends.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her 1st husband, James Parkins; cousin, Sandra Varna; and many friends.

Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home chapel.
