Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | August 06, 2024

Normagee S. Cooper, age 98, died on August 4, 2024, at Monroeville Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. Born June 25, 1926, in Mannington, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Bessie (Satterfield) Snodgrass and the wife of the late John H. Cooper.

Norma spent a happy childhood in West Virginia with her family before moving to McKeesport with her husband and family. While raising her family, Norma worked at and eventually retired from the former Woolworth Company of East McKeesport, where she worked in retail sales. One of her favorite stories from her retail career is losing her wedding ring at work, to somehow find it inside a sewing pattern! During her long and happy marriage, she enjoyed square dancing with her husband and friends. Norma spent many hours working on crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader as well, with Harlequin romance novels being her genre of choice. Norma was also a lover of dogs, owning boxers and poodles throughout her life. Her many granddogs also held a special place in her heart. If you asked Norma what her favorite food was, she would undoubtedly say ice cream. At any given time you could expect to see at least six half gallons of Hagan's Pennsylvania Vanilla in her freezer. More than anything, however, her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Norma is survived by her grandchildren, Tracey (Vince) Maiolo, Melissa (Hitesh Soneji) Cooper, Carolyn Cooper and Dyanne (Erik) Carpenter; their mother Mary Ellen Cooper; great-grandchildren, Kirin, Kai, Sophia and Rose; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her children, Dennis Cooper and Sharon "Sissy" Cooper; and her siblings.

Arrangements were entrusted to Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory. A graveside funeral service will be held on August 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Mannington Memorial Park in West Virginia.
